Holding Back, So You Can Stand
56 x 64 cm, Acrylics on Canvas
2025
This painting is based on a traditional Ukrainian embroidery pattern, extended through layered experiential references. At its core lies the act of restraint – holding back one’s own impulses in order to remain present for another. At the same time, the work points to a deeper dynamic: the quiet withdrawal of one’s own visibility in favour of someone else. It remains deliberately ambivalent, situated between care and self-loss.
